Every year, International Women’s Day offers a moment to pause and reflect on the achievements, courage, and resilience of women around the world. It is a day to honour the contributions women make in society, business, and communities, while also recognising that there is still meaningful work to be done to ensure that women’s power, perspective, and leadership are truly respected and valued.
In recent times, the world has shifted rapidly. Within only a few days, global developments have reminded us how fragile balance and stability can be. Conflict, uncertainty, and economic challenges have reshaped the global landscape, and these realities affect everyone however often place additional pressure on women navigating professional and societal expectations.
Against this reflection, International Women’s Day becomes more than a celebration. It becomes a moment to acknowledge vulnerability alongside reinforcing the importance of resilience, respect, and cooperation.
The Courage Behind Women’s Leadership
When women step forward into leadership, entrepreneurship, or public life, they often encounter pressures and prejudices that require a remarkable level of courage and determination. These qualities are frequently described as resilience or strength.
Yet, if we measure this qualities by outcomes, these additional battles should not exist in the first place. The results achieved through dedication, competence, and vision remain the same and should be recognise accordingly. A more balanced world would recognise that providing encouragement, opportunity, and safety is not only beneficial for women, it’s essential for the growth of entire societies.
It raises an important reflection: what might the world look like if qualities such as empathy, harmony, resilience, and determination were universally recognised as leadership strengths and then equally celebrated in both women and men?
I think that in such a world, the focus on collaboration and long-term value would likely outweigh power struggles and inequality. Leadership would be measured not only by authority, but by the ability to build environments where people can flourish.
Personal Reflections on Leadership and Legacy
My own perspective has been deeply shaped by the women in my life, particularly my late grandmother. She was a remarkable example of harmony, commitment, courage, and equality. Despite facing many personal challenges, she maintained a quiet strength and a clear vision of fairness and dignity. Her example continues to influence the way I approach leadership and entrepreneurship today. Through her values, I learned that true strength often expresses itself through patience, respect, and perseverance. These principles have guided me in building my business with integrity and with a deep appreciation for the excellence and craftsmanship of others.
While understanding that choosing one’s own path is not always an obvious or easy decision, it remains one of the most powerful acts of leadership we can take.
Women as Builders of Stable Ecosystems
When women are given the opportunity to lead and contribute, the outcomes often extend far beyond individual success. Women tend to focus on safety, clarity, and stability, elements proven to be fundamental to healthy organisations and societies.
And in a time marked by geopolitical tension and economic uncertainty, these qualities are increasingly valuable. Leadership that emphasises long-term vision, thoughtful decision-making, and collective wellbeing contributes to systems that are resilient and sustainable.
This is the type of leadership that shapes thriving ecosystems. It is an quiet yet powerful ability to build structures that endure, grounded leadership perhaps even modern leadership.
Building a Future with Resilience and Purpose
My work continues to focus on building financial resilience and strengthening the foundations that allow people, organisations, and economies to grow sustainably. Recent global events have only reinforced this mission. They remind us that stability, clarity, and responsible leadership are needed.
When women have the literacy, opportunities, and resources to lead and build, the impact reaches far beyond individual success. It creates stronger institutions, more inclusive economies, and a future where prosperity is shared more widely.
Honouring Women Everywhere
I feel deeply grateful for the many inspiring women within our community and beyond who continuously challenge, support, and motivate one another.
Therefore an International Women’s Day, we both recognise past achievements, continuing creating the world we believe in and further built on respect, opportunity, and resilience for future generations.
I say to all women everywhere:
Your courage, determination, and vision continue to shape the world, so never give up.
We see you, we honour you, and we celebrate you.
To your success,
Marleen
